Macon, GA (December 6, 2019) – Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Georgia will announce its 2020 Youth of the Year winner and induct two new members into the Boys & girls Clubs of Central Georgia’s Hall of Fame (HOF) during its 4th annual Youth of the Year & Hall of Fame Induction ceremony on February 6, 2020 at Goodwill’s Anderson Conference Center.
The annual event honors current club teens, club alumni and community partners who have gone on to make major contributions in their communities, within their professions, or through their support for the Boys & Girls Clubs.
Hall of Fame Class of 2020 inductees include: SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY HONOREE – novelist, landowner, businessman, and philanthropist Mr. Benjy Griffith, Founder of the Griffith Family Foundation and CLUB ALUMNI HONOREE – world renowned symphony orchestra Conductor Mr. Roderick Cox.
The 2020 inductees will join three previous classes: 2019 HOF inductees Rosalind McMillan, John Hiscox and Lamer Geddis Jr.; 2018 HOF inductees Beverly Knight Olson and Aubrey Boyd, and 2017 HOF inductees Zelma Redding and Bobby Pope.
The 2020 event will also feature famed actor and Academy Award Winner, Louis Gossett Jr. as guest speaker. Gossett Jr. is best known for his Academy Award winning role as Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley in the 1982 film An Officer and a Gentleman, and his role as Fiddler in the 1977 ABC television miniseries Roots. Gossett has also starred in numerous other film productions including A Raisin in the Sun, The Landlord, Skin Game, Travels with My Aunt, The Laughing Policeman, The Deep, Jaws 3-D, Wolfgang Petersen's Enemy Mine, the Iron Eagle series, Toy Soldiers and The Punisher, in an acting career that spans over five decades. Louis Gossett Jr.is currently playing the mysterious Will Reeves in HBO's new Watchmen show.
